Run Townsville 2016

Training Update 03 Jul 16

Well it’s been a while since my last training update, so here’s the latest.  Since the Outer Limits Two Bays Trail run on Maggie Island, my training partner and I have kept up our regular training routine and on the 19 Jun 16, took part in the Inaugural Outer Limits Adventure Ross River Rush trail run. The run was conducted around the Townsville Rockwheelers mountain bike track and was the first time it was made accessible to public runners. It was a good track to run and made even more interesting by the storm Sam conjured up early Sunday morning.  The track was muddy and wet in places and luckily we got through most of the run without it raining....

Ronald McDonald House NQ Visit – 16 Jun 16

Last Thursday I had the privilege to meet Brad Hastewell, the Relationship and Development Manger from Ronald McDonald House (RMH) NQ. Brad gave me a tour through RMH and like most people I thought the house was only a place where families came to stay when they had sick kids. Brad soon opened my eyes to everything else RMH offers to the families, so much more than just a roof over their heads. They have a Leaning Program that offers tutoring to sick children to help keep the schooling on track whilst in hospital. There is a Family Retreat at Palm Cove in the Mantra Amphora Resort, where families can get away for a holiday after their hospital stay and...

Training Update: The Two Bays Trail Run – Magnetic Island

Well, another first ticked off the bucket list. Last weekend my wife and I competed in our first ever trail run experience. The Two Bays Trail Run hosted by Outer Limits Adventure on Magnetic Island was a fantastic introduction to trail running for us both. The road running and the Castle Hill tracks we’ve run recently were a good start, but nothing like running the trails over on Maggie Island. Geraldine was confident she could manage the 10k run, not quite sure whether she’d finish before dark though, but surprised herself by coming in at 1:30min and before dark, (big sigh of relief). I gave the 20k a crack and was happy with my results, coming in at 2:29min and...

Paul’s Training Update

Training Log 25 Apr – 1 May 16 Four weeks into training and the heel pain from last week seems to have gone, so it’s back to running again. Did the usual Monday 10k at Pallarenda with my running partner Geraldine. I had a play with our son’s GOPRO and stabilizer to capture some running footage, just have to learn how to edit now before I can post it. Wednesday was the 8k run around the Red Track for the JCU running study. I can honestly say 20 laps around the track is not very exciting. It was all for a good cause though and hopefully the  study will get something out of the data collected on the day. The...

Marathon Preparation Townsville

From zero to Marathon in 4 months… why not!?

On 29 February, I received a text from my wonderful PT, Paula Pool, asking if I would come on board as BodPod’s representative for the Townsville Bulletin Chosen Ones. I knew that the Chosen Ones was an initiative where a handful of runners each raise as much money as they can for Ronald McDonald House, culminating in the Chosen Ones then participating in the Townsville Running Festival. I immediately and unhesitatingly told Paula ‘yes’; Ronald McDonald House is such a worthy charity, and I was flattered and excited to be fundraising for them on BodPod’s behalf. One small detail; I would have to run! Not being one to do things by halves, I decided to sign up for the big...

Paul’s Training Update

Training Log 18-24 Apr 16 Well, week three of training and my body is sending messages already. One thing I’ve learnt recently is when I get a little niggle of pain, listen to it and rest up before it turns into a loud scream of pain. After our Mt Stuart walk last Saturday morning, I began to notice a slight pain in my right heel. Normally I wouldn’t have worried about it and kept on training, but it wasn’t that long ago when I did exactly that, kept on running, next thing I could hardly bear any weight on that heel. Plantar Fasciitis isn’t something you can ignore, so no running, lots of stretching and a bit of gym work...
