Well, another first ticked off the bucket list. Last weekend my wife and I competed in our first ever trail run experience. The Two Bays Trail Run hosted by Outer Limits Adventure on Magnetic Island was a fantastic introduction to trail running for us both. The road running and the Castle Hill tracks we’ve run recently were a good start, but nothing like running the trails over on Maggie Island. Geraldine was confident she could manage the 10k run, not quite sure whether she’d finish before dark though, but surprised herself by coming in at 1:30min and before dark, (big sigh of relief). I gave the 20k a crack and was happy with my results, coming in at 2:29min and before dark as well. We’d walked some of the tracks previously, so had a bit of an idea of the terrain, but running them was a different story. Nothing like chasing a setting sun to keep your eyes on the track and feet moving.
I have to say, the pram push training I’ve done recently up Castle Hill sure came in handy (thanks to Sarah and Cooper). Just when I thought it was getting hard running those long gentle inclines, I thought of how much harder it would have been pushing young Cooper up these hills in a pram, didn’t seem so bad then and it put a smile on my face.
A big thank you to Sam Stedman for marking the course with the pink marking tape and to the volunteers for pointing us in the right direction during our run. We wouldn’t have found our way around without you.
In summing up, we both thoroughly enjoyed our first trail run experience, came away feeling capable and confident to tackle more demanding trails. We’ll be looking forward to the next Outer Limits Adventure, Ross River Rush here we come. Here’s a pic of us before and after our run.
Onto the business side of things, fundraising update. Paula’s first 100’s board has been drawn, congratulation to Shonte for picking the winning number. Just as I’m about to post this, the second draw has taken place and Jude’s number came up, congratulations Jude. The next draw is this Saturday at Mass Nutrition, so if you’re anywhere near by, drop in and get your numbers.
For my part of the fundraising effort, my son and I have been making dust on our CNC router. I’ll have a couple of items up for sale/auction in the near future. They’ll have a military feel, so hopefully in this Garrison City they’ll gain a bit of interest and fetch a good price.
Don’t forget if you’d like to help out Ronald MacDonald House Townsville, head over to The Townsville Bulletin Chosen Ones 2016 Everyday Hero Bod Pod page and make a donation. Such an amazing charity and well worth our support.
Until next time,
Cheers Paul.
