About 3 years ago a close friend of mine who is a teacher was telling me about some of the issues she faces with children coming to school with no bags, pencils, books and socks so I made the decision to assist as many of these children as possible.
Every Christmas I provide these basic items to children who needed it. She had also made the comment that some children, through no fault of their own, would arrive at school without any lunch or without eating breakfast, so that’s when I decided to start “Fuel for Schools.”
“As a community, we need to say this isn’t right, we’re not going to stand for this and we need to make a change!”
I envision this becoming a charity, however as we are yet to lift this off the ground, I simply provide families with much-needed schooling items, such as:
We are asking for donations for 1 backpack filled with the above goodies.
We appreciate your family, helping to assist other families. This is a great initiative to get your children involved too ~ the gift of giving without expectation of receiving something in return.
Donations can be dropped off at Fit Empire & Wellness (278 Bayswater Road, Townsville).
These items will be dropped off to public primary and secondary schools in Townsville, Ayr and Ingham, the week before Christmas holidays. Ensuring they have a practical gift for their next schooling year.
Visit the Fuel for Schools website or check out our Facebook page.

Research shows that one in seven Australian school children are skipping breakfast, a meal linked to improved school performance and lower BMIs in children. Add to this the fact that many high school students do not eat lunch, there becomes a real necessity for high schools to offer breakfast and lunch programs for their kids to ensure that they are off to the best start possible in their learning.
We were gobsmacked to learn that these breakfast programs are not funded and that schools fundraise themselves to offer this service with many not being able to offer it at all towards the end of last year due to running out of supplies.
This is something we can help with! We have launched “FUEL FOR SCHOOLS”. Our aim is to supply public high schools in Townsville, Ayr and Ingham with non-perishable breakfast supplies to enable them to operate for all of 2022.
We need your help in the form of goods listed below.
The schools have indicated they desperately need:
The gift cards will be used to purchase the above as well as perishable items including bread, cheese and butter.
We appreciate any support you can offer and really look forward to brightening the mornings of high school students throughout the Townsville region.
This is an ongoing initiative, so please drop your donations in whenever you can. The kids will appreciate having a good meal to start the day.
