When people first start out on a weight loss journey or fitness regime they can get easily turned off by the idea of a diet.
For many, food is connected with comfort and happiness. Therefore, it is easy to believe that a diet will make you uncomfortable and unhappy. But this is not at all the case.
The right diet for your body is about giving it the fuel that it needs. Your body does amazing things just in a regular day, and then when you kick things up a notch with a training program you are asking it to be just that little bit more amazing.
And your body can handle that no problem, but you should nourish it and reward it in the process.
A healthy diet is not about reducing your food, restricting your options or punishing your hardworking body, far from it! It is about nourishing your body with high-quality fuel to reward it for all it is doing and giving it what it needs to continue to be amazing.
I like to keep nutrition simple; fresh food, lots of colour and big flavours. Eat an abundance of veggies, some delicious lean meats and proteins, some healthy fats, and good quality carbs. Keeping nutrition natural and organic will keep the body and hormones happy on your health and fitness journey. Eating the right food means you are always satisfied and never going hungry.
Eat your food as close as possible to its natural state. This means the more processes it has to go through, the more chemicals and additives that have to be put it, the poorer quality fuel this is for your body. Highly processed food may fill an empty belly briefly, but it will not fuel or nourish a happy healthy body.
Building as much muscle as you can not only benefits you metabolically, but will also help keep joints, tendons and bones strong as the body is aging. To me, this is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves. But when we are asking our body to do this we need to fuel it properly.
My clients discover that within a couple of days of healthy, nourishing eating, they can already feel a change. They feel almost instantly less sluggish, their sleep is improved, and their energy levels are through the roof. Niggles like headaches and strain are reduced, their digestion improves, and their skin is clearer.
And probably the most surprising effect of all is that when they are eating like this they are satisfied and happy.
We only get one body, so it’s very important to look after it. Like a flourishing plant. Feed it with vitamins and minerals (which we get from our whole foods) and give it plenty of water and it will bloom.
If you have any nutrition questions, I would love to hear from you.
